James Williams is an Advanced Graduate Extern practicing at our city locations. He is currently attending The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, nearing the completion of a doctorate in clinical psychology. James has an extensive background in providing therapy to children, adolescents, and adults from culturally diverse backgrounds. His patients are people of all ages who have dealt with a range of clinical concerns including depression, trauma, grief, ADHD, anxiety, and personality disorders. James tends to approach therapy as a journey to self-improvement, where he serves as a guide to clients, helping to provide them with the tools they need to help themselves, long after therapy has ceased. In that guiding role, he integrates a variety of evidence-based therapies tailored to the client’s presenting concerns, cultural background, and stage of the change process.

James also has extensive experience in providing psychological assessment services to children, adolescents, and adults for a wide range of clinical diagnoses and concerns. He assesses clients for ADHD, autism, academic challenges and other learning concerns, behavioral and personality questions, neuropsychological concerns, as well as for presurgical evaluations (including for gender affirming care). He is passionate about evaluations, as he believes that the diagnostic process sets the tone for how a person will understand who they are and how they view the mental health system.

In his free time, James enjoys walking, binge-watching shows, watching sports, traveling, and making music.
